We took a break from the lab for a lunch together to say goodbye to Roksana, who spent the past six months working with us. It was a great opportunity to enjoy some good food, good company, and share our best wishes as she heads back home.

At the beginning of July, Shaik attended the Young Science Congress (Kongres Młodej Nauki), organized by Gdańsk University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk, where he presented his research during the poster session. The congress was a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas with young researchers from a wide range of scientific fields, establish new connections, and gain fresh perspectives.

At the beginning of July, we had the opportunity to attend the Central European Congress of Life Sciences EUROBIOTECH 2026 in Kraków.
The congress was a great opportunity to learn about the latest advances in biotechnology, exchange ideas with researchers from diverse fields, and expand our scientific network. We were also proud to present our research during the poster session, returning to the lab with valuable feedback, fresh ideas, and new inspiration.

At the turn of June and July, Magda and Piotr participated in the workshop “High Cell-Density Fermentation of Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas putida: From Proteins to Bioplastics”, organized at the Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences as part of Eurobiotech 2026.
Over three intensive days, participants gained hands-on experience in high-cell-density fermentation, working with industrial-scale bioreactors and following the entire process from culture preparation to biomass harvesting. The workshop combined theoretical background with practical training in process monitoring, optimization of cultivation conditions, feeding strategies, and recombinant protein production. It also provided valuable insights into the challenges of scaling up microbial cultures from the laboratory to industrial settings.
Beyond the technical training, the event was a great opportunity to meet researchers from different institutions, exchange experiences, and discuss current trends and challenges in modern bioprocessing. We would like to thank the organizers for creating such an engaging and inspiring learning environment.

We are seeking a motivated candidate for a 4-year PhD position in the Laboratory of Structural Biology at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology, University of Gdańsk.
This interdisciplinary project explores the innovative use of bacterial toxin-antitoxin modules to enhance recombinant protein production. It combines molecular microbiology, protein engineering, biochemistry, and advanced structural biology techniques.

Recently, we had the pleasure of attending a joint Lab Retreat co-organized by the Grabe Lab and the Ewelina Małecka Lab.
The retreat, held in Ostróda, brought both teams together to share ongoing research through scientific presentations, exchange ideas, and build new collaborations. Beyond the science, we had a great time getting to know each other during a cruise on Jezioro Drwęckie, followed by a bonfire on Wyspa Orzechowa.
We returned with new knowledge, stronger connections between our labs, and many great memories.
This event was made possible through EMBO Installation Grants awarded to Grzegorz Grabe and Ewelina Małecka.

I had the pleasure of delivering a lecture at the Gdańsk University of the Third Age entitled “Fighting Resistant Bacteria: From Antibiotics to Phage Therapy.”
I discussed the growing global challenge of antimicrobial resistance and the promising potential of phage therapy as an effective alternative to conventional antibiotics. It was a truly rewarding experience to engage with such a motivated audience of senior students.
I’m grateful to the organizers and all participants for the opportunity to share knowledge on this critical topic.
